The editor at a glance
The top bar, the left rail, the canvas, and how saving works.
The editor has three parts: the top bar, the rail of tools down the left side, and the canvas in the middle where your page appears.
The top bar#
From left to right:
- Site menu: the icon next to the Drome logo. It has Dashboard, Settings, Preview, Publish and Editor tour.
- Pages menu: shows the page you're editing. Click it to switch pages or create, rename, duplicate and delete them. See Add and manage pages.
- Desktop and mobile: switch the canvas between desktop and mobile views.
- Undo and redo arrows.
- Preview opens your draft in a new tab.
- Publish puts your changes live. See Preview and publish.
The left rail#
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Layers | An outline of the page. Click an item to select it, or drag it to move it within its section. |
| Colors | Palettes and individual colors. See Colors, typography and borders. |
| Typography | Font presets and per-role fonts, sizes and weights. |
| Borders | Border width and corner radius for cards, buttons and images. |
| Media library | Upload and manage images and videos. See Uploading images, video and 3D. |
| Pointers | The cursor visitors see on your site. |
| Loading screen | What visitors see while your site loads. |
| Page transitions | The animation between pages. |
| Effects | Overlay, scroll and pointer effects. See Effects, transitions and pointers. |
The canvas#
Your page is built from sections. Hover a section to show Add section points and its controls. See Sections and variants.
Click any container, text, media or button to select it. A toolbar appears where you can edit the content and change how it looks. Many actions also have keyboard shortcuts.
The desktop and mobile views share the same content. Some settings, like section padding, can be set separately for mobile while the mobile view is on.
How saving works#
There is no save button. Drome saves each change about a second after you make it. While a save is in progress, a spinner shows in the Pages menu.
- If a save fails, you'll see Couldn't save and Drome keeps retrying.
- If you have unsaved changes and try to close or reload the tab, your browser asks you to confirm.
- If the same page is changed in another tab, you'll be asked to reload before you keep editing.
Undo history is kept only while the editor is open. Reloading the page clears it.
Saving is not publishing. Your saved changes stay in your draft until you click Publish.
