Page titles, descriptions and social images
Control how each page appears in search results and when shared.
Each page has its own title, description and image. Search engines use them in results, and social apps and messengers use them when someone shares a link to the page.
Edit a page's details#
- Open the pages menu at the top center of the editor.
- Select the page.
- Make sure the Meta tab is selected.
Changes save automatically as you type.
Page Title#
The title appears in browser tabs, search results and link previews, followed by your site title (for example, "About · Studio Lumen"). To use a different mark between them, such as "|" or "—", choose it under Title separator in Settings. It can be up to 60 characters. It's also the page's name in the editor. See Add and manage pages.
The homepage shows your site title alone. To show something else there, enter a different homepage title; leaving it empty, or setting it to "Home" or your site title, keeps the site title. You can change the site title in Settings under Site title.
Meta Description#
A short summary of the page, up to 160 characters. Search engines may show it under the title, and link previews often show it under the image. Write one or two plain sentences about what the page offers.
Meta Image#
The image shown when someone shares the page. Select Select Image and choose an image. The recommended size is 1200×630 px. To clear it, select the trash icon next to it.
Preview how it looks#
Below the fields, Preview shows a mock-up of the page as it might appear. Switch between Social for a shared link and Google for a search result. Each service has its own layout, so treat the preview as a guide.
Make your changes live#
Titles, descriptions and images on your live site update when you publish. See Preview and publish.
Search engines and social apps keep their own copies of your pages. After you publish, they can take a while to show new details.
